The Gel-clear header pipe connector, with an in-built air intake valve, is fully compliant with BS EN 12056-2:2000 Backflow protection for the header pipe to prevent backwash overflow above the ceiling where HVACR cabinet condensate pump discharge pipes connect. Fits industry-standard 40mm solvent weld pipes.

Condensate pumps for refrigeration cabinets work wonderfully well, when installed correctly. What has always been the problem is how the pump discharge line connects to the drainage system.
Ironically, the second biggest cause of condensate pump failure is discharge hose kinking. The discharge hose connects at high level to a header drain above the ceiling tiles, usually by the hose turning 180 degrees and dropping into an open pipe.
This open connection is also prone to water leaks from ‘backwash’, cause when the pump discharges under pressure into gravity drain, causing a kinetic wave washing back down the drain pipe.
Both of these problems are solved with the Gel-clear drain connector, it seals the connection, and connects the hose at a vertical, in a straight line, completely ruling out the risk of kinking.
The connector is a good example of how necessity drove innovation – solving a problem caused by a small but important element: the drainage connection, with nothing on the market, and no easy solution. The traditional method for connecting the display case outlet to the drain is often to simply to run a section of hose up to the header drain, double it over, and push it into an open connection on a ‘T’ junction. This means that the flexible hose is prone to kinking and that in turn can lead to the pump burning out. In fact, kinked hose is the second biggest cause of condensate pump failure.

The Gel-clear header drain connector has been designed specifically to solve these problems. Developed in association with The University Of Central Lancashire Innovation Clinic, and manufactured in the northwest, the plastic connector ensures the connection to the hose is sealed, preventing any backwash leaks. It also ensures the hose runs vertically, in a straight line, completely ruling out the risk of kinking.

The connector also incorporates an integral air inlet valve to keep air pressure balance in line with building regulations and British Standard EN12056.

Conceived, designed, and manufactured in Lancashire England.
